You see, one of the seo mistakes we see is that people want to optimize for many different keywords and that is ok, but you cannot do this on one page. So the best way to go is to optimize one page for top 3 keywords! And concentrate on those three!
Here are the details on the optimization of that page and this will include on page optimization as well as off page!
1. If possible, buy a domain name that has keyword in the domain name. This is not a must, but preferred. If you do not want to do that, optimize the URL for that keyword such as: http://mydomain.com/review-of-honda-accord-ex
2. Have those same keyword in the title
3. Have that keyword in the first sentence and the last sentence. But spread it around throughout the text as well. Get the keyword density of 1-3%, make sure you do hyperlink your keyword at least once in the text.
4. Social Bookmark your page.
5. Build anchored text links from blogs – do follow and no follow is fine!
6. Build more anchored text links from High PR sites, such as profile links!
7. Get some .edu links pointing to your site!
8. Give a bit of the boost on getting the pages of the links indexed by submitting RSS feed for the links you built and do not forget to ping them as well.
9. Get another set of 100 links built weekly to your pages
10. Do press releases to build more links.
You see, even if you do everything right, in the first 8 steps, and you end up ranking your page high in the search engines, you also need to maintain the rank by adding in more links later on. People will often forget they need to link their pages to maintain the rank. This is probably the reason there is such a HUGE need for link building service providers, and this is one of the biggest seo mistakes for sure.
On that note! For a brand new site, do not add thousands of links to your pages. Start slowly, do one thing at the time. Social bookmarking the first day, second day, spend time on the blog links, third and forth day, build some High PR links, and wait few days. Come back to it again, and build a little more links. DO not forget about maintaining your page after you rank. Even if you do get to the spot #1, you have to maintain the rank for years to come by adding in more links and of course you can outsource link building!
Oh…and one last thing. Be very, very careful how you build your links. If your page comes up with http://domain.com link it like that, but if it comes up such as http://www.domain.com make sure you do include the www, otherwise all your linking work will be waste of time and money if you are outsourcing this work, and that concludes SEO mistakes part two.

Great post. I really agree that sites require constant linkbuilding effort to keep google top 5 positions. When you run more than 10 sites, outsourcing linkbuilding is a no brainer
Very interesting post. I especially took note of the with a www or without part – I did not know that before.
Thanks again
Jonathan
Hi Ivana and Alex,
With reference to item 4. above, which social bookmarking sites do you recommend?
With reference to item 8. above, are you refering to the indvidual linked page or the entire site when submission to RSS feed directories and using the pinging services?
Thank you for sharing with us your knowledge.
Paul
Do you recommend automating your blog commenting.
Really great help to me, I’m not a vet yet. I’d say I already do hafl of your suggestions, now its time to incorporate all of your suggestions
Hi Paul,
Social bookmarking. Do as many as you can. Even if their are no follow. People think no follow does not help with rank, but yes it does, it just does not pass the PR of the other site onto yours.
For number 8th, if you are building profile links, it takes a while for them to get indexed. So burn the feed on those URLS and submit it. And yes ping them. They do get indexed naturally as well, but this method helps to index more links faster.
It really does make the difference.
I am sorry, what do you mean by automating blog commenting?
I am so happy we can help.
a meaningful and fruitful advice… a very insightful seo optimization advice.
kudos to you:-)
another insightful and meaning advice…thank you very much this a great help to my seo optimization!
Thanks for the tips. They’re very helpful!
Was interested to see that no follow links are still valuable, I thought they were a waste of time, thanks for that.
I am curious about the www versus the now www version of a url. I thought it was the same thing and was treated by the search engines as the same thing. If you type a site name without the www it just goes to the www .
Yes, with the “www” and without are two different ways to rank your site. Just choose one option and build links for that exact URL, without changing the prefix.
My website is showing up for 14 keyword phrases on 1st page Google, however I can only maintain it for perhaps a week. I’ve read that this is known as the Google Dance, and it happens because the site is relatively new. The info I have says that it will stabilize after 6 months. I do everything you recommend in your article, except the social bookmarking of all my pages. I have read that doing this is considered spamming these sites, because I would only be promoting my website.
Thanks and God bless.
Hi Randy,
Social Bookmarking links help too, they always do. If you submit your site to various social bookmarking sites, using different titles, descriptions, and make the bookmark attractive, it is not spamming at all!
All the best!
I always learn so much from your posts. Thanks for the great SEO advice. I will put it to good use right away.
Yeah that sounds logical and helpful. Thanks to you I have managed to get my blogs and articles ranking for certain keywords. I have seen your tips work. Thanks for the advice you give and please continue to provide us with more.
Great advice. I still haven’t figured out how to keep up with the maint on dozens of sites yet. It looks like that would take 24 hours a day. How do you guys do it?
the easiest is to hire someone to do the time consuming work.
Great Tip… I really enjoy the content that you put out on this site… keep giving back so much great knowledge.
Great info – thanks.
Great to hear that no follow links do actually count for something.
Cheers
Jonathan
We really enjoy your tips on SEO. We build all our domains to answer to the http://mysite.com address. We then 301 the www subdomain. We never refer to the www version of any of our sites. Could we please have your opinion of this procedure?
Hello,
I am a fool. You are kind enough to provide backlinks in our comments and I failed to take advantage of the anchor text for my keywords, choosing to use my name instead. I really don’t need to be found by my name for the site linked to. Perhaps a word to the wise for others as well. I am a foolish boy. BTW, thanks for the link too.
Thanks for the link tips, planning small like the way you mentioned is the way to go as long as i do what you suggest and dont stuff around your advice will work. As always thanks again for the helpful tips! And for another link…
Good point with the www and http:// part.
This seems to get missed a lot and dilutes the link intensity as you are really linking to two sites.
This can be amplified by even having a / after the url to make three different sites when you believe it is for one.
Again /index and /default can even dilute further.
Choose which one you will do all the link building to i.e. http://www.mysite.com and keep evey link pointing to this exact url as best practice.
Sometimes helps to have the keyword in Alt images on your pages, underline & bold keywords helps as well as having keywords in H1 tags ect. As long as you do not exceed around 4% overall density.
Good post again.
Thanks for this post, I’m going to follow on some of these steps. Regarding the missing “www”, I know that can be fixed using url-rewriting. But, does anyone know if that truly fixes the link quality?
Wow,thanks you said it all,too bad it’s not as quick doing it,lol
Nice useful post and some tips that I need to think about.
As I need to build my links more I certainly find this an interesting read.
Thanks
Hello Ivana and Alex,
Very well thought article. Would you suggest using a service like social poster for your submissions? I have had some luck with it recently and it is free.
Thanks,
Michael
Hi Michael, sorry we have not use social poster so we cannot advise on it.
Two things:
First, about the no do follow links, I read somewhere that Google of course sees all the links so even if they are not follow, they are still aware of them.
Second, on the www. vs. no www, I thought some hosts automatically pass whichever you don’t use to the one you do use. Or is my memory failing me here?
Thanks, Kim
Hi Kim,
When it comes to ranking, go with what URL shows when you open website. So if it is with www, add it in. It makes the difference in ranking.
Right on the money with your tips. I use them all and then some to get great first page results. A few other thinds I do are H1 tags, bold my keywords, and italicization of keywords. Helps the eyes and search engines see what’s important.
Great article. Link building is definitely something I would like to give to you guys to do, but must first build up my sites a bit more. Link building must seriously be the most boring part of building blogs.
I’m confused
You said
…..best way to go is to optimize one page for top 3 keywords! And concentrate on those three
In the same page how recommended you to optimize for top 3 keywordsdo…?
—Each Kewword must be between 1 and 3%
–The 3 words must be in the title.?
Thanks
Ramiro
In this case, your main keyword phrase will be in your URL, the rest of them will be inputted in the text.
Hi Michel, that is why you have us
A whole load of really fine information! My problem as a newbie IM is finding free links right now– am terribly cash strapped and just lost my job; but you give good advice as always
I also am short on money so I am building bit by bit everyday and it does add up if you are consistent.
Nice report. As per the www. and the domain.com without www. The thing you need do is to go to the settings page on your WP and add the www. as well so that the site can come up in search engine as www.
Sheyi
Great report. When you have a Home page with a single post, then multiple pages, should you use all your keywords on the Home page post, then applicable keywords on each page?
Home page first, but it really depends on the other pages and their keywords. Maybe different keyword phrase for each.
